What We Offer >> Courtyard Leisure Facilities
Through an archway from the stable courtyard is the swimming pool courtyard, a sheltered suntrap given a tropical feel by exotic plants such as palms, bananas (yes!), Tetrapanax and many more. It's a popular place to stretch out (see below, Loungers & Deck Chairs).
There is a changing room with changing cubicles, lockers, shower and loo - all particularly handy for Kirkmirren guests who want to swim, play tennis, etc. The changing room also houses a steam room - see below.
Swimming Pool
- A generous 40 x 20 feet, not the usual bathtub size commonly found elsewhere.
- Heated to 80 Fahrenheit (26.5 C).
- Open mid-May to early Sept.
- Water quality is managed to the highest standards - no chlorine smells! We pay for Environmental Health to test it regularly (including full bacteriological lab analysis), and they always pronounce it the best pool water in the region. None of the nasties you might pick up in Spain ....
Tennis Court
- Located in the former walled garden, sheltered from most winds.
- Proper all-weather surface (quick-draining), with a non-slip polymerised coating, LTA approved.
- Basketball/Netball net (pro quality) for practising your shooting!
Steam Room
- Located in the changing room in the pool courtyard, where all other necessaries are to hand: shower, loo, changing cubicles and lockers - so you can wander over from your house for a steam at any time, even in midwinter, fully clothed with coat and hat.
- Comfortably seats 6 adults.
- Softly lit by a starry night sky (fibre-optic) to aid relaxation.
- Eucalyptus oil supplied - soothing, refreshing, and good for the respiratory system.
Barbecue Terrace
Adjacent to the pool courtyard in the walled garden is a large paved square enclosed by a hornbeam hedge, with comfortable and stylish furniture and a craftsman-built double barbecue. Catches the sun from morning to night, and incredibly popular for sitting out at all times.
Sun Loungers and Deck Chairs
- Luxury adjustable sunloungers as supplied to the QE2 and other leading cruise liners.
- Top class solid wood deck-chairs (and similar) from the Southsea Deckchair company, as seen in the leading beach resorts of the south coast.
- More than enough of both to go round.
Giant Chess
- In the pool courtyard, sheltered by a wall.
- 8 feet square, custom-built, permanent.
Grass Area for games etc.
The former walled garden contains a two-tier lawn: the smaller top lawn is ideal for badminton, volleyball and croquet (top class Jaques croquet set can be hired); the larger bottom lawn is popular for other ball games such as Rounders and French Cricket (or football within reason!).
Games & Multipurpose Space
We have created a large indoor space out of what was a double (or quadruple) garage in the courtyard. It is designed to be multipurpose:
- Table Tennis and Table Football
- Special high-tech rubber flooring suitable for Yoga or aerobics classes, etc.
- White projection wall for presentations, film shows, etc.
- Tables, chairs and benches for groups eating together, etc.
- High quality lighting options.
Rope Swings
Not actually in the courtyard area, but not far away (and this is the best place to mention them).
